重庆大学开源协会的前身重庆大学开源俱乐部成立于2011年，由重庆LUG发起成立，创始成员为计算机学院景世超、杨欣、刘志松等。此外西南大学开源协会和重邮Linux协会也为协会创办成立提供了非常多的早期帮助。
重庆大学开源俱乐部自2011年成立以来，一直是重庆LUG的核心成员，联合举办了重庆及重庆大学校内的众多大型开源活动。包括2011年开始连续三年的 SFD 重庆站重庆大学场、ezgo沟通会和月度活动等。
2017年借助在重庆举办 GNOME 2017 亚洲峰会的契机，重庆大学开源俱乐部更名为重庆大学开源协会，英文名称为 Chongqing University Open Source Society
